About Liverpool

Liverpool - European Capital of Culture 2008. As one of the most exciting and vibrant city destinations in Europe, the city has never been more attractive for visitors.

Renowned as the birthplace of The Beatles, home to two world famous football clubs and two architecturally renowned Cathedrals; Liverpool has more theatres, museums and art galleries than any other UK city outside of London.

LOVE ME DO - ever heard of The Beatles?! Need we say more?! In Liverpool, music is part of our culture and the City's impact on the music scene is as strong as ever. From current favourites The Zutons and The Coral to old favourites The Lightening Seeds, Cast, Echo and the Bunnymen, Space and Ian Mcnabb. Look for venue listings for both local and touring bands at The Barfly, The Carling Academy, The Picket, The Zanzibar and of course the famous Cavern Club. Former Beatles haunts The Cavern Club, The Casbah, The Jacaranda, Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields - have all become essential places of visit for all fans and there are various activities to satisfy die-hard fans -including a tour on The Magical Mystery Bus and the official Beatles Story Museum.

SHOP 'TIL YOU DROP - if you want it, find it in Liverpool City Centre. From exclusive boutique shopping at Cricket and Cavern Walks, to a high street bursting with all the familiar names. We have the designer orientated Met Quarter and Liverpool One, plus a vibrant local vintage scene with eclectic individual shops situated in Grand Central. This not enough? Bargains galore are available at Cheshire Oaks shopping centre…

FOOTBALL? RACING? JUST SITTING AND WATCHING? - both Liverpool FC and Everton FC give grand tours of their grounds - much easier than getting a ticket for the match! The famous Grand National Steeplechase is based at Aintree Racecourse and there is more racing at Haydock, the Open Golf Tournament based in the Wirral, Karting, Rugby, Watersports…..the list goes on!

THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT - 5 theatres showing both touring and independent local productions, an award winning art house cinema (F.A.C.T.), a classic music hall (The Philharmonic Hall) hosting everything from African Reggae to Lou Reed to the Halle Orchestra - there is always something happening that can keep you entertained. Scouse humour is available on demand most nights of the week in various comedy clubs and the renowned Liverpool nightlife means the bars and clubs stay open until the early hours. This is why we have no curfew!

EATING OUT - where to start? Liverpool has the oldest Chinatown in Europe and elsewhere in the City Centre, you can find everything from Russian and French, to Latin American and traditional Irish breakfasts! There are excellent vegetarian & vegan options, fine dining choices and many budget options that can provide a hearty meal for less than £5.00.

FESTIVAL FUN - a city that likes to party, Liverpool takes every opportunity to boast of it's multi cultural and musical heritage. From the official Liverpool Music Week & the Matthew Street and Beatles Festival, we also have Creamfields, the Mersey River Festival, the Brouhaha International Street Festival, a Caribbean Carnival, the African OYE…..we could go on and on!

LANDMARKS & ARCHITECTURE - did you know Liverpool has more historic buildings than anywhere else in the UK outside of London? From the famous 'Three Graces' that dominate the Liverpool Waterfront (including the Liver Building) to our two instantly recognisable Cathedrals, parts of Liverpool City Centre have been classified as a Unesco World Heritage Site and architectural masterpieces such as St. Georges Hall are relics of Liverpool's wealthy past.

See you soon!
