GOING GREEN & MAKING A DIFFERENCE!

We are committed to promoting Green tourism practices and actively promote eco friendly policies at every opportunity.

We pride ourselves on our energy saving and recycling policies and make every effort to inform and encourage our guests to comply with our guidelines - both whilst staying with us and when they leave us.

GET TURNED OFF…

We have 'Green Guides' in all our rooms which encourage people to use water wisely and to be aware of our energy saving policies, i.e. turning off all lights in rooms, turning off heaters etc.

Lights operate on timed motion switches and on a key card system which means they can only be used when a guest is present in the room. Heaters are operated from reception so can be turned off when rooms are vacant or until use is requested by a guest. We only use energy saving light fittings. Signs are displayed by all communal sinks and hand basins to advise people to consider their use of water, i.e. to use short bursts, to turn off when not using (when brushing teeth etc), in order to raise awareness of consumption.

REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE!

We have public use recycling bins in all our communal areas - including our onsite cafe - and have prominent signs displayed encouraging guests to separate their rubbish. Spare recycling bags are available from reception - something we also take care to prominently display!

All our promotional material is printed on recycled paper and all our purchased office products - paper, envelopes, stationary - are recycled.

We only use small, local businesses for the supply of our bread, tea and coffee and are strictly fair trade in all products that we buy. We have taken care that the toiletries we buy are also in line with our ethical policies and none of our products are tested on animals or from a company that tests other products on animals.

THOSE BOOTS ARE MADE FOR WALKING…

We actively encourage guests to use local transport or walk before using private transport and always suggest walking tours as the best way to hot-foot it around the city. To this end, public transport routes are thoroughly explained on our website and we also have maps and timetables constantly available in reception for guests. All staff are well versed on the most popular bus routes and take care to pass this information on to you.

BANISH THE BAG!

We have also taken on the task of aiding to banish the plastic bag! Posters displaying the slogan 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!' are displayed throughout reception and we provide canvas shopper bags at reception for a practical alternative.

KEEPING IT LOCAL…

Socially, we have a commitment to our developing local community and promote local culture by providing a wealth of information on independent local businesses and services. Local street artists have provided artwork for us in our communal areas based on their interpretation of Liverpool '08 and we will continue to commission such artwork.

As regards our employment practices, in line with our ethics we are defiantly non-exploitative and all staff, full and part time get paid above minimum wage rates. The promotion of equality and diversity is an essential component of our development and is an extremely necessary part of our success!
